Connect a Store order to hosted checkout without giving the payment provider ownership of the catalog.
SELF-HOSTED PAYMENTS FOR STORE OPERATORS ACCEPTING SUPPORTED HOSTED STRIPE OR PAYPAL CHECKOUT
Payments hands a Store-owned order to a configured hosted provider and returns the result for order handling.
What this helps you do
- Connect eligible Store orders to hosted checkout.
- Configure supported Stripe or PayPal providers.
- Handle success, cancellation and failure returns.
- Record provider references with the order.
- Keep payment credentials out of product and theme code.
Why this works differently inside Freehold CMS
Store keeps products, carts, orders and fulfillment; Payments owns the provider connection and reconciliation boundary.
The module keeps its own records and validation while the rest of Freehold CMS supplies shared routing, themes, administration and other installed services. That keeps business data in the layer responsible for it instead of copying the same information into several places.
Checkout should extend the order system, not become the order system.
The website needs a durable record of what the customer ordered before leaving for hosted payment. Payments works at that boundary: Store owns the commercial record, the provider handles its hosted approval flow and the result comes back for reconciliation.
Test every result before accepting live payment
Verify the provider account, configure credentials and return URLs, create controlled test orders, exercise success, cancellation and failure, inspect the recorded state and confirm fulfillment jobs. Provider approval, taxes, refunds, disputes and merchant obligations remain outside the software license.
